Local Maker Spotlight: Freestone River Soap
Here at The Localist, we believe that every product tells a story – and some
of our favorites come from right here in our backyard. Today, we’re thrilled
to introduce you to one of our cherished Colorado makers: Freestone River
Soap.
From Nurse to Natural Soapmaker
During the stillness of the 2020 pandemic, when the world paused and
priorities shifted, so did the life of a breast cancer research nurse who
suddenly found herself on furlough. Looking for something to fill the
unexpected space in her days, she turned to creativity – and soon, her
kitchen was bubbling with batches of handcrafted, all-natural soap.
What began as a hobby to bless family and friends quickly blossomed into
a business that’s now bringing skin-loving, great-smelling goodness to
communities across Northern Colorado. And let us tell you – these soaps
aren’t just pretty to look at; they are made with love, purpose, and the kind
of care that only a nurse-turned-artisan could offer.
What’s in a Name?
The name Freestone River Soap is intentional and poetic as the product
itself. Inspired by her husband, an avid fly fisherman, the name pays tribute
to the beauty and unpredictability of nature. A freestone river flows freely,
its rhythm and course guided only by rain and snow – unregulated,
untamed, and entirely natural. Just like her soaps.
This connection to nature is reflected in every bar: simple, honest,
ingredients, gentle on the skin, and lovingly made in small batches.
Why We Love It
When you pick up a bar of Freestone River Soap at The Localist, you’re
holding more than just soap. You’re supporting a local woman-owned
business, celebrating a journey of resilience and reinvention, and bringing a
little more nature into your day.
Whether you’re looking for a thoughtful gift or simply want to elevate your
daily self-care ritual, these soaps are a true local treasure.
